HANNAH ARENDT. As a late tribute to the recent centennial of Hannah Arendt (she was born in 1906) I have added a small piece, Community and the Limits of Necessity, that I wrote more than ten years ago dealing with one of her most pertaining questions: Is there a way to strengthen those parts of modern existence where the distinctively human freedom to create and act can be separated from the demands of necessity?
